The Bursary Programme

The State Scholarship Board is one of the earliest agencies established shortly after the creation of the state. It was constituted through Executive Council Memorandum No LSEC (68) as an advisory and implementation organ on Scholarship awards.

Admnistration of awards metamorphosed in 1979 from award of Local and Foreign Scholarships, to the award of Bursary at rates determined by individual courses in order to cater for the large number of indigenes in need of assistant in Nigeria tertiary institutions and Law School.

Since then, various amount ranging from N500.00, N750.00, N1,000.00 and N5,000.00 had been paid as bursary to deserving students of Lagos State Origin, except for physically challenged and the Law School Students whose bursary were increased to N20,000.00 and N40,000.00 respectively.

By 1998, bursary rate was increased to N10, 000.00 per awardee but was not implemented until 1999 when the Governor Emeritus of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu assumed office as the Governor of the State. Since then, students except physically challenged and Law School, have been collecting N10, 000.00 flat rate as bursary.

However, His Excellency, Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN) together with his wonderful members of the State Executive Council, has recently approved the increment in bursary rates as follows:

1. Arts Student
N20, 000.00
2. Science Student

5. Law Student
N50, 000.00
6. Architecture Student
N50, 000.00
7. Pharmacy & Pharmacology student

Payment of these new rates will commence from 2008/09 session.
