The Awards
(A) LOCAL SCHOLARSHIP.
This is for prospective students of Lagos State origin except otherwise directed by His Excellency. It was resuscitated in the year 2002. Students should be on full-time and not part-time studies.Those who have benefited include:
- Those with excellent performance in their area of academic study and sports.
- Off-spring of those who died under tragic circumstances, or natural disaster within the State.
- Brilliant physically –challenged, indigent students/pupils and orphans who without Government support wouldn't have been able to achieve thier desired goal.
ELIGIBILTY CONDITIONS:
- The award is not for Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) Programmes, except where it is a direct component of the Masters programme.
- Prospective awardees for Post-Graduate programmes must have proven academic abilities attested to by their performance in the first degree.
- Propective awardees must have secured admission into a Nigerian tertiary institution before applying for the Scholarship award.
- The course of study must be within the manpower needs of Lagos State, as determined by the Office of the Special Adviser on Education/Scholarship Board from time to time.
(B) FOREIGN SCHOLARSHIP.
This award is designed for students of Lagos State origin admitted for undergraduate or postgraduate programmes in recognized tertiary institutions outside Nigeria.
It is no longer applicable to applicants in the fields like Law, Social Sciences, Finance and Management Sciences. However, other fields like technical, technological, medical, languages and environmental Sciences which are not readily available in Nigeria attract Foreign Scholarship award.
ELIGIBILITY CONDITIONS
- Applicant must be an indigene of Lagos State.
- The course of study must be within the manpower needs of Lagos State, except otherwise determined by the Office of the Governor of the State on recommendation of the Board.
- The candidate must have secured admission into the prospective institution outside Nigeria before applying i.e. presentation of the Letter of Admission is one of the criteria for consideration.
- The candidate must be pursuing an undergraduate/ a postgraduate course leading to B.Sc, M.Sc, M.A., M.Phil/Ph.D., PREFERABLY Sciences, Engineering, Medicine and other courses that are not readily available in Nigeria.
- Candidate must have proven academic excellence attested to by his/her performance in the first degree, preferably 2nd Class Upper Division or a First Class.
FINANCIAL BENEFIT.
Financial benefit for both Local and Foreign Scholarship has just been increased by the amiable Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN). Successful candidates for Local Scholarship will receive as follows:

MODALTIES FOR THE DISBURSEMENT OF FUNDS TO AWARDEES.
Local Awardees
- All awardees under this category would receive their awards by bank cheque payable into their bank account.
- Release of subsequent award cheque to awardees would be subject to issuance of clearance from the Academic Office of the various institutions of the beneficiaries, and
- Attestation to good behaviour by the dean of students Affairs.
Foreign Awardees
- The tuition fee out of the total sum approved for each awardee would be remitted directly to the institution of study. Such institution shall acknowledge receipt not later than 60 days of the receipt of the remittance.
- The balance i.e. accommodation and living expenses (if any), will be remitted to the awardee’s personal account or be collected by the student personally.
- Release of subsequent award would be subject to issuance of clearance from the Academic Office of the various institutions of beneficiaries indicating satisfactory performance.
TUITION FEE OF INDIGENES IN LASU
The State Government under the leadership of His Excellency, the Governor Emeritus of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu initiated the payment of school fees of Lagos State indigenes in Lagos State University (LASU) in 2006. So far, majority of indigenes in LASU whose studentship had been confirmed by the institution had received their school fees from the state Government through the policy.

FEDERAL GOVERNMENT PROGRAMME.
The Board participates in several Federal Government educational support programme. This includes distribution of forms and participation in the conduct of interview for Bilateral Education Agreement Scholarship (BEA), distribution of Commonwealth Application forms and Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) application form.
